Working With Venture Logistics

At Venture Logistics Ltd, some roles are offered on a zero-hours (casual) basis. This page explains how our casual working arrangements operate, the rights you have, and what you can expect from us. It’s written in plain English so prospective and current casual workers can make informed choices.

What “zero-hours” means

Zero-hours means we are not obliged to offer work and you are not obliged to accept work. When we have a shift available (for example, driver’s-mate assistance for packing, loading, unloading and placing items), we’ll contact you with the date, time, location and expected hours. You can say yes or no — there is no penalty for declining.

  • No guaranteed hours: work is offered only when needed.
  • Freedom to refuse: you choose which shifts to accept.
  • Occasional/ad-hoc: ideal for flexible, part-time availability.

Pay, holiday and payslips

We pay at least the applicable National Minimum/Living Wage for every hour worked. Casual workers also receive paid holiday. We usually handle this by “rolled-up holiday pay” (an extra percentage added to your hourly rate).

  • Hourly rate: always at or above the legal minimum for your age band.
  • Holiday pay: included via rolled-up percentage.
  • Payslips: issued for every payment, showing hours, rate, tax/NI and any holiday element.
  • Payment timing: normally on Friday after your shift.

Right to work and onboarding

Before you can start, we must complete basic onboarding checks:

  • Right-to-work evidence (passport or share code, plus any required visas/permits).
  • Personal details (full name, address, date of birth, National Insurance number, bank details).
  • Emergency contact and any relevant health/safety information.

We handle your information securely and only for lawful purposes related to your engagement and payment.

What we provide and what you provide

For driver’s-mate shifts, we provide the vehicle and job brief. You bring suitable clothing/footwear and, where requested, basic protective items (e.g., gloves). If any specialist equipment is needed, we’ll confirm this on the booking.

  • We provide: vehicle, route/job details, necessary lifting aids where applicable, supervision.
  • You provide: punctual attendance, safe working, professional conduct, and following site/customer rules.

Health & Safety and conduct

Safety is essential. You must follow our health & safety guidance and any lawful instructions given on site to protect yourself, colleagues and customer property. Treat customers and team members with courtesy and respect at all times.

  • Manual handling: use safe techniques and lifting aids provided.
  • Customer premises: protect floors/walls and follow access rules.
  • Alcohol/drugs: zero tolerance on duty.

How offers and shifts work

  1. Offer: we send you the proposed shift details (date/time/location/estimated hours/rate).
  2. Acceptance: you confirm “yes” or “no”. If yes, the booking is made.
  3. On the day: arrive on time, follow safety rules, complete the tasks specified.
  4. Timesheet: we confirm hours worked at the end of the shift.
  5. Payroll: payment is processed in our standard cycle; you receive a payslip.

Insurance

While you are working an accepted shift for us, you are covered by our Employers’ Liability insurance. Our vehicle and goods policies apply according to the job brief and our internal procedures. You are expected to work safely and to report any incident immediately to your supervisor.

Equal opportunities and fairness

We are committed to equal opportunities and a workplace free from discrimination or harassment. If you have a disability or support need, tell us in advance so we can make reasonable adjustments.

Cancellations and reliability

If a shift is cancelled, we’ll notify you as soon as possible. If you need to cancel, please let us know quickly so we can reallocate the work. Reliable communication helps us maintain good client service.

Questions or concerns

If you have questions about pay, holiday, safety, conduct or anything else, please contact our team: lee@venture-logistics.co.uk (shifts/safety). We aim to resolve issues promptly and fairly
